Pros and Cons of Shopping to Relieve Stress
Often referred to as ‘Retail Therapy’, all of us have either experienced or are aware about using shopping as a means to relieve stress. Yes, we do get some sense of pleasure out of shopping when we are in a shop, choosing and buying goods that entice us. However, there is a dark side to this reality too. This particular kind of shopping can prove to be a bit damaging if you are not careful. Here, we would like to discuss the pros and cons of shopping for getting rid of stress.
Pros:
Diverts Us From Stress—shopping combines use of physical and mental energies, ensuring that temporarily we are distracted away from our anxieties. Shopping includes driving/walking to markets/malls, going up and down the elevators/stairs and finding parking spots. These seemingly small activities add-up to ensure that shopping, holistically engages our senses, sidetracking us from our worries.
Always Available—there are always markets or superstores around us. Unlike counseling sessions with psychiatrists, there is no need to make an appointment. Apart from the very late and early hours, Retail Therapy can be accessed on any day of the week.
