How Hair Turn Gray
Melanocytes are cells within the hair follicles responsible for rendering the hair its natural shade. These cells contain a pigment called Melanin. This pigment defines the color of our nails and skin too. The number of melanocytes varies across every individual. This is largely decided by our genetic mix, i.e. the blend of family genes. The reduction in the number of melanocyte or a severe reduction in the synthesis of melanin initiates graying of hair. Hair with traces of melanin tends to turn gray and those without any pigment turn white.
