Stylish Safa for the Handsome Groom
How do you spot an Indian groom at 50 paces? The perfect attributes of an immaculately turned out Indian groom are a rich embroidered sherwani, a dupatta (stole) worn around the neck or tied around the waist, designer mochdis (traditional Indian footwear for the groom) and, the stylish Safa with a jeweled brooch pinned in the front or an artistic feather perched on the top!
Let us just say that an Indian groom on the way to marry his bride without a Safa (turban or headgear) is rarely heard of (exceptions being during the chapel weddings). The importance attached to turbans is on account of the fact that Indian kings and princes considered their crown and turban as a symbol of their pride.
Since the entire ensemble of groom is meant to represent him as an Indian king or emperor (it’s his Big Day, remember?), therefore the Safa or the turban is an important part of not only the groom’s attire but also that of his father, uncles, cousins, best-man and other immediate male relatives. However, the groom’s designer turban is far superior to that of the other members of his bridal party.
